North Colony Church of Christ

History

Upon moving to The Colony, Bro. Williams III and his family searched for the Church of Christ in the city, but were saddened when they did not find it. The need for a biblically sound church rang in the ears of Bro. Willie Williams III. In the beginning of the summer of 2008, a bible study was held with a neighbor in the community. Bro. Williams III quickly realized in the course of that study that a church needed to be planted.

The morning of June 24, 2008 the decision to begin a work in The Colony, TX was born. The vision was to plant a church that would be rooted and grounded in the word of God and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Bro. Willie B. Williams Jr. minister of the Beckley Heights Church of Christ was notified of the vision and began to work with the development of planting the church. The evangelist, Bro. Willie Franklin of the Lewisville Church of Christ was also notified and immediately began to invest his knowledge and efforts in the realization of the vision. Bro. Walt Minchew was contacted, the elder of the Walnut Hill Church of Christ and immediately he responded to the need and contacted Bro. Ronnie Lewis to assist in this effort. Bro. Lewis and the Walnut Hill mission board collaborated to support this effort. On September 14, 2008 Bro. Karson Williams of the Prestoncrest Church of Christ heard about the work and diligently gave his services and his expertise to the vision of the North Colony Church of Christ.

The vision was to begin the work in January 2009. However, on September 17, 2008 on a late Wednesday night, Bro. Williams III held a home bible study in the community which resulted in two precious souls. At 11 p.m. those souls were added to Jesus Christ by baptism. At that time it became undeniable that God works on own his time and not on ours. Prayers were answered when Bro. Cornelius Taylor committed to working with the church and its development. On September 28, 2008 the North Colony Church of Christ had its first worship service. The meetings were held for two weeks in a gymnasium by the kindness of the owner. On October 12, 2008, North Colony Church of Christ had its first official opening worship to the community. 90 people gathered into the community center to praise God and to support the work.

On February 14, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. early on Saturday morning, prayer was given among the brethren that we might find a new location for the church. We were starting to outgrow the Westin Resort Hotel where we were meeting and the desire was to have something more permanent in the city of The Colony. Plans were discussed to start looking for a new location in April or May. Tuesday afternoon on February 17, 2009, just three days later the prayer was answered and a prime spot was located for the church. God answered our prayers almost as soon as we said amen! God continued to bless us and supplied all of our needs. Our facility was fully furnished in a matter of a few weeks by the blessed hand of God. On the corner of 5201 S. Colony Blvd; North Colony Church of Christ had its first worship service on March 29, 2009.

In 2010 we were able to secure a larger facility to meet our needs. The new location is positioned right on Main St. right next to McDonald's. It was a great blessing for the members who pitched in and sacrificed to see the vision come to life. In March 2012 an opportunity opened for us as we were blessed to open up a Christian Academy and day care.

We at North Colony Church of Christ are expecting many more blessings from the hand of God.
